Gianyar, FLUNUD.ac.id – Monday (June 2, 2025) – As part of efforts to protect intellectual property (IP) in the village of Sumita, the MBKM Bina Desa Sumita 2025 Team conducted its main program, which includes: Awareness-Raising Session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Business Identification Number (BIN). This session involved various stakeholders, including village officials from both the traditional village of Sumita and the Sumita District Office.

The objective of the activity is to educate the Sumita Village community about the importance of protecting their carved creations from external claims or irresponsible use. Carvings, as part of the livelihood of Sumita Village residents, hold philosophical, artistic, and spiritual values that must be preserved in their authenticity. Therefore, the preservation of these carvings is not only the responsibility of individuals or specific groups but also requires the support of the entire community.

In conducting this awareness campaign, lecturers from the Faculty of Law at Udayana University (Prof. Dr. Ni Ketut Supasti Dharmawan, S.H., M.Hum, LLM, Putu Aras Samsithawrati, S.H., LLM, and Dr. I Dewa Ayu Dwi Mayasari. S.H., M.H.) and representatives from BRIDA Gianyar (I Nyoman Mudita, S.H., MAP) provided explanations about the importance of legal protection for carving works owned by each business operator in Sumita Village, including the registration mechanism, particularly the inventory form that must be filled out completely and clearly.

Through this awareness-raising activity, it is hoped that the woodcarvings in Sumita Village can receive proper recognition, both at the national and international levels. This protection is not only to prevent claims from external parties but also to strengthen the position of Sumita Village woodcarvings as an important element of Balinese culture, particularly within the traditional village of Sumita.
