Making History: SCIL FH Unud Delegation Wins 2nd Runner-Up and 3rd Best-Counter Memorial at the 2025 Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition

Tokyo, FLUNUD.ac.id – The SCIL FH Unud Delegation Team, consisting of Rendy Yanfery Situmorang (Class of 2022), Laetitia Arista (Class of 2022), Ni Made Putrini (Class of 2023), and Jan Christoper Wismar Saragih (Class of 2024), along with coach I Komang Dananjaya (Alumni 2019), had the opportunity to participate in the Asia Cup International Moot Court Competition organized by the Japanese Society of International Law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on August 5–6, 2025, in Tokyo. Through a rigorous selection process involving 73 universities from 19 countries, the SCIL FH Unud team was selected to represent Indonesia and became one of 16 teams to advance to the oral pleading rounds.

In the case titled β€œThe Case Concerning the Transboundary Movement of Used Electronics,” the SCIL FH Unud team presented a very interesting legal argument related to contemporary international legal issues concerning the jurisdiction ratione materiae of the International Court of Justice, the legal standing of countries to file claims, and the obligations of countries under the Basel Convention regarding the management of hazardous electronic waste. The SCIL FH Unud team successfully secured the position of Second Runner-up and the award for 3rd Best Counter-Memorial. In this competition, University Ateneo De Manila (Philippines) emerged as the Champion, while National University of Singapore took the First Runner-up position.

This achievement is a source of pride and a testament to the support and prayers of various parties. This success also marks the second time the SCIL FH Unud team has advanced to the international rounds, following their previous achievement in 2024. For the team, this success represents a valuable experience, a deep learning opportunity, and a chance to bring honor to Indonesia on the international stage.
