Jimbaran, Wednesday (May 20, 2026) – The thesis defense of Gede Eka Widhi Adnyana, a student at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, was held. The thesis is titled “THE POTENTIAL FOR LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE COMMUNAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF THE NYEEB TRADITION IN TAJUN VILLAGE, BULELENG REGENCY, BALI PROVINCE.”
Held in Room L2.04, Thesis Examination Room 1, at the UNUD Law Faculty campus in Jimbaran, the thesis was supervised by Dewa Ayu Dian Sawitri, S.H., M.H., and I Gede Pasek Pramana, S.H., M.H., and examined by Dr. I Nyoman Bagiastra, S.H., M.H., Dr. Made Aditya Pramana Putra, S.H., M.H., and Dr. Ayu Putu Laksmi Danyathi, S.H., M.Kn.
This research was conducted empirically in Tajun Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province, involving and actively coordinating with the Buleleng Regency Culture Office, the Buleleng Regency Regional Research and Innovation Agency, and the Bali Provincial Office of the Ministry of Law.
This collaboration was realized through the processes of inventorying, collecting field data, and facilitating the documentation of the Nyeeb Traditional Ceremony as a Traditional Cultural Expression (TCE).
The research results indicate that although the Nyeeb Tradition has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage, it had not previously been registered as Communal Intellectual Property in the form of TCE; consequently, protection of the moral and economic rights of the cultural bearer community has not been optimal.
Through collaboration and coordination with relevant agencies, the Makepung tradition has finally been successfully registered as a Traditional Cultural Expression, and the certificate has been issued by the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) as a means of strengthening legal protection for the communal intellectual property of the community of Tajun Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province.
